Day 22, Sunday 22nd September. Bujaraloz - Candasnos (20.2km)

Today we walk with Jesus to Jerusalem in His ascent to the Cross.

With Ignatius, I ask the Father for this gift: to feel sorrow with Christ in sorrow; to experience anguish with Christ's own anguish; and even to experience tears and deep grief because of all the afflictions Christ endures for me at the end of His life.

Our scripture is Jesus washing the disciples feet: enfleshing in his own body and actions the servant nature of leadership in God's kingdom. "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

We now know how dirty, tired and bruised feet become after a long day's walk.

Many on the pilgrimage of life long for someone to tend to their needs, them bearing bruised and tired spirits. Who might that be for me?

Another day of our pilgrimage prayer begins (the first two hours in prayer.)

A new day as we leave Bujarloz: what surprises are in store?
The farmer in me spots this machinery: exactly what is it?

We think WE are traveling at snail's pace! One sees and understands more than imagined, not to mention those one meets on the road, and those conversations that ensure at a slow pace.
Just what are these snails doing?
Flowers in the corn? Flowers can be found in unexpected places, even on the road to Jerusalem.
So much corn growing so prolifically in desert regions: water works marvels!

The orange arrow of the Camino Ignaciano urges us onwards.

Large pig farms in the middle of nowhere announce their presence with their aroma: how do the pigs cope with the searing heat and the bitter cold?
The first shade for the day signals time for a break.
Every small village is so proud of its church: lunch and a coffee summons us.
Where does this water spring from?
And why did this helicopter land at our side?
Our GPS tells us we are at the Greenwich meridian zero.
Every achievement is worth celebrating on this long pilgrimage. Jan thinks so anyway!

Unexpectedly, we found ourselves slushing through a stream of water and thick foliage: the desert is full of surprises!

Muddy boots led us to a fruit stall in the middle of nowhere!

Fitzy is intent on grapes!

Jan is resting, Danni hungry, and Stephen envious!

The three amigos nearing our destination.

.... Which is Candasnos.
