Day 17, Tuesday, 17th September. Aragon - Zaragoza (31kms)

So begins another day's pilgrimage with a prayer and a song in the historic plaza of the former Jesuit church, the history of which was passionately related to us by Señora Pilar last evening.

Today the fields were alive with farming activity, such as this forage harvester (took me back to my own farm days).

As well as the great River Ebro, this haunting beautiful ancient mountain range has been our constant companion, presiding over 000's of years of developing culture(s).

We meet lots of the locals along the way who show us great hospitality and who are keen to know of our pilgrimage. Here we have Alvaro & Louis, 80 & 91 yo respectively.
We note the intricate architecture on churches we pass, embodying the significant Arabic influence in the Zaragoza district.

A unique Madonna & Child born of Ababric influence?
Lunch break in the village Plaza, with an improvised foot bath!

The locals were bemused by our presence - a welcome interruption to their daily meeting in the Plaza.

Helen likes an ice-cream to round off lunch break!

The ancient city of Zaragoza looms, with its exquisite architecture, new and old!

Our destination with a welcome rest day awaiting us, just beyond the half way mark!
Refueling at the end of the day with traditional food and drink ....
..... And stories to be recounted, with friendship sealed through Eucharist and a meal.
